If you have never tried a scone, now is the time to do so because you don't know what you've been missing out on! I first had one years ago at a women's book club in a little coffee shop, and I was instantly in love.
Honestly though, these scones with butter sauce are my very very favorite breakfast food. They are just delicious and satisfying. You can individually wrap and freeze them and pop them in the oven or microwave and eat whenever it pleases you. The warm butter sauce makes them irresistible....
I also make a batch with mini chocolate chips for Sam, the blueberry for me. You could also use other combinations like cinnamon/walnut, cranberries, and other berries. Blueberry is my favorite:
Scones
2 cups all purpose flour
1/2 Cup white sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/8 teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons cold butter
1 large egg, beaten
1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 cup frozen or fresh blueberries (or mini-chocolate chips)
egg mixture to brush on top:
1 large egg
1 tablespoon heavy cream
Golden Butter Sauce:
1/2 c. half and half
1/2 c. real butter
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 t. pure vanilla extract
Mix in large bowl the flour, sugar, salt & baking powder. Cut in butter with pastry blender (or fork) until flour becomes crumbly:

Then add the beaten egg, cream and vanilla, combine just until mixed. I use my hands so I don't overmix or the scones will be tough and not crumbly:

Cut into 8 triangles with a pizza cutter:
Put onto a large cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush with the cream/egg mixture:
Bake in a preheated 375 degree oven for about 15 minutes or until slightly golden brown. Remove to cooling racks:
To make butter mixture, combine all 3 ingredients in a small saucepan over medium heat, stirring until butter melts. It will look like this:
Pierce the scone with your fork in a few places, and pour some butter sauce over scone:
Enjoy with a cup of coffee or tea!

What do I have to do to get you to send me some of your amazing food? Name my next born after you? (oh wait, I am uterus-less so that won't work!) Write your name in smoke in the sky? (damn, I'm afraid of planes, so that one is out)
How about I mention your blog everyday for a whole bunch of days and drive some of my wiener lovers over to you?
PLEASE???
Hallie :)
I have had scones before, but this recipe looks really yummy especially with that butter sauce.
I love blueberries too, so I think I will be making these for sure.
Thanks for sharing your recipe.
I WANT to lick my screen.. LOL LOL.. I know.. crazy... I LOVE butter.. blueberries.. heavenly and AMAZING!!!
I've never made a scone.. can you believe that??? I think we're gonna change that ..this weekend!!
Hey Tanya - These are wonderfully sophisticated versions of the great Aussie staple - the humble scone!!
The basic version is great when camping. Throw the mix together as one, make some individual markings with a knife so they pull apart after baking. Then cook in a cast iron skillet with a lid over fire coals for 20 mins. & voila you have hot scones AKA Aussie Damper!
Millie ^_^
Count me in as another person who has never tasted a scone. It looks yummy though and I'm going to give it a try because if you say it's good, it will be!

These look wonderful. I can't wait to try them. I'm hosting a book club at my home next week and needed something refined and delicious. This looks just right. Thank you! I will be back for more great recipes.
MMM, yummy! These look so good, especially the butter sauce. Wicked good.
I absolutely adore scones. Blueberry scones are delightful with lemon curd and devon cream.
I'll have to try your recipe... my dh loves blueberry scones. I use Tyler Florence's recipe that has a lemon glaze on them. Yum! http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,,FOOD_9936_24255,00.html
If you're not into making your own lemon curd, you can buy it at World Market. I've also seen devon cream there, but I prefer the kind in the dairy case in upscale food markets.
Bon Appetit!

I don't know how I came across your blog, but I wanted to let you know that this recipe caught my eye. Enough so that today my 5 year old son and I made your scone recipe (with chocolate chips, of course). They were WONDERFUL! And that butter sauce sent them over the top. =)
Thanks for sharing the recipe... I'm off to bookmark your blog and check out the other recipes.
These look so delicious I thought about using cranberries instead of blueberries. I still wanted to do the cream sauce.
I also made these this morning for a brunch with some friends, along with the Ham and Swiss puffs. Everything was so good. I didn't want to stop eating! I am serving more of both recipes this weekend for some out of town guests. Yum! Thanks for the awesome recipes!
