Pantry Challenge #3: Going To The Dogs

Our dogs need some yummy kitchen loving too, right? My dogs go through quite a few treats in a day. Not only are they overpriced at the store, but who knows what kind of nasty stuff is in them? Here's a great and super easy recipe for man's best friend that will leave you with a very happy dog, and help your pocket book a bit too! This recipe lasts me the whole week for two dogs and I always have these ingredients in my fridge/pantry:

Man's Best Friend Biscuits

1 c. whole wheat flour (regular is fine also)

3 T. all natural peanut butter
1/2 c. milk
1/4 c. grated parmesan cheese
1 egg white
1 T. chicken or beef broth
1 t. baking powder

With an electric mixer, mix the flour, milk, and peanut butter just until combined. Add the broth and parmesan cheese, beating on low for about 15 seconds. Add the eggwhite and beat on low for about 30 seconds or until it's the consistency of pancake batter. Beat in the baking powder. Drop onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper or greased. Bake at 375 for 15 minutes or until golden. Let cool.

These come out to a harder but chewy consistency. My dogs LOVE them. I cut them in half for Sophie because she's smaller. When I give one to them, they each run off into opposite directions to make sure the other doesn't steal it.

We are having crappy weather here today, so I'll be baking up a storm! Also, remember my little feeder with the sweet mourning doves? Well, so much for signs! We woke up this morning to this:

Looks like Mr. Bear decided to have himself a treat. I just filled it with fresh seed yesterday too! The joys of living in the Northwoods!

OK - I know this post was about dog treats (which my SIL will love to make for her furry friend) but I'm posting about your blog in general ... because it's amazing! I know I've visited before, but seriously ... it actually makes me want to bake, and that's saying something!

What a neat idea! I am so sorry about your bird feeder! Boy, does it look funny though. Do you see the bear often?

Creative junkie, that was the nicest compliment-thank you! Baking is addictive..give it a shot!

Sheri, we haven't seen the bear yet, but the neighbors across the street saw it last week when it destroyed their feeders. The scary part is that the feeder is right by our front picture window. Naughty bear!

Very naughty Bear spank hinney. When I told Doug about this dog treat he was thrilled. King loves peanut butter. Doug has this black ball thing he puts the peanut butter in and King rolls it all over the floor just to get it out. We are going to try thins on him. Maybe tomorrow when I am off I will give them a try. Let ya know how he likes them.

Lovely thoughtful post Tanya - your dogs must be the envy of every other dog in the street! No dogs here, just a cantankerous elderly cat Miss Chloe.

However, the Man-of-the-House is know to all our sons as the 'walking human garbage disposal' (will eat anything & everything) so I reckon if I made a batch of these they would disappear into his tummy without a second thought!

Faith-if he loves peanut butter, you can add more in this recipe. Just make sure it's the natural without the added sugar.

Lol Millie! Funny you said that, because these actually smell really good when they're baking and are certainly edible for humans...hmmmmm. ;)
