I hate to admit this, but I'm ready for the Autumn season. The people around here just hate to hear that because the winters are so long and we all complain about it so much. So it's almost blasphemy to hear someone actually wish for the cooler weather. Still, maybe because I was born in October, my soul always longs for Fall. I love LOVE love the weather, the colors, and more than anything, the COOKING/BAKING!! Oh, I make my very best and favorite recipes in the Fall and Winter and I cannot wait to get to them...
But, alas, the sweltering summer is still here for awhile and because of that, that cute kid I call Sambo gets quite irritable and cranky in the humid weather we've been having lately. I haven't been able to bake in the last week or so because turning on the oven would be torture! I love to mix up this simple smoothie for Sam on a hot summer day because it's full of fruit and he loves it:
Simple Summer Fruit Smoothie
In the blender add 1 cup of either plain yogurt, vanilla yogurt, or strawberry-flavored yogurt. To this, add one sliced, ripe banana:
And to that add 5 fresh strawberries, tops cut off:
Next add 1-1/2 c. milk along with a cup of ice cubes:
You know those little individual serving packets you can get to add to your bottled water that Crystal Lite makes? Well, add one packet of one of those, flavor of your choice. We like strawberry-kiwi, raspberry, or fruit punch. Kool-aid also makes these little flavor packets if you'd rather use that, but we like the Crystal Lite best. Now blend well until everything is as one.
You can serve it like this, as a drink. However, with the leftovers, you can pour it into a container (I use the old Crystal Lite containers because they make a good serving size) and freeze it for an hour or two, and it makes a beautiful slush that's perfect to eat with a spoon. Kids LOVE it!
Also, if you don't mind the added sugar and you want to make a thicker treat right off, you could add a couple of scoops of vanilla ice cream. Mmmmm.....

A woman after my very own heart! So last week we had a high of 69 and it slung me into a very deep longing for fall. Oh I can't wait.
Well, I'm certainly no "tot" but that looks really good to me! And what a great idea to add the Crystal Light packet!
I'm looking forward to fall, too...because you know that's PUMPKIN TIME!!!
xoxo
I'm ready for fall too. I live in AZ and it's over 100 every day lately. I'm looking forward to some nice baking weather.
my kids love to make smoothies... I buy them bags of frozen organic fruit... and my 13 is the smoothie chef :)!
BTW... your header photo looks yummy!
Oh Tanya I'm a yoghurt freak so I love this! You're honesty about looking forward to Fall is refreshing, but I think your comment will come back to haunt you when you are doing it tough in the deep depths of your next Winter!
Millie ^_^
Tanya, that is too funny. I have also been wishing for fall the last week or so. Fall is my favorite time of the year too, and it just doesn't last long enough. I work at a kitchen store, and we are getting all of our fall things in, so that doesn't help much. Don't tell anyone, but I baked a pumpkin pie last week :)
And have a fabulous recipe for butternut squash soup that I have been itching to make. Glad I am not the only one already thinking of fall.
Thats one of my favorite smoothies.
Now THIS is something I could eat every day. And I'm with you... I LIVE for fall. But down here, our heat and summer lasts well into October, sigh.
These are on the list to try this weekend.. Tobi will actually drink smoothies so it is a great way to get fruit into his diet.. I am also ready for fall..
Sounds great. I've enjoyed checking out your blog.
